Become A Volunteer

Catastrophes is a small sanctuary looking after a lot of cats. Many of them will live here for the rest of their lives—the elderly, the unwell, and the ones nobody else would take. That only works because people give their time.

You do not need any experience with rescue cats. What helps most is turning up when you say you will, and not minding a bit of hard work.

Ways people help

• At the sanctuary—cleaning, feeding, laundry, and sitting quietly with the nervous ones until they work out that people are safe.
• Grounds and maintenance—fencing, painting, repairs, and keeping the runs and gardens in good order.
• Transport—getting cats to and from the vet.
• Fundraising—collections, events, or raising money in whatever way suits you.
• Behind the scenes—admin, social media, and photographing the cats who are looking for homes. Good photographs find homes.

How to get started

Email Lizzie@CatastrophesCats.org and tell us a little about yourself, whereabouts you are, and roughly when you would be free. We will come back to you and arrange a time for you to come and see the place.

The sanctuary is at Half Moon Cottage, Bakers Lane, Dallington, Heathfield, East Sussex, TN21 9JS. Please do not turn up unannounced—call ahead on +44 (0)1435 830212, as the cats need a calm day.

If you cannot get here

Distance is not a barrier to helping. You can send food, bedding and litter straight to the sanctuary through our Amazon wish list, or give towards the cats’ food, warmth and veterinary care. Sharing our appeals with people you know costs nothing and genuinely works.
